Many are surprised to learn that donkeys are far easier to shelter than horses. Since they originated as desert animals, they are well-adapted to warmer climates. They can also do well in cooler climates, though they will require some sort of Shelter for Your Donkey to use in colder weather or when it is wet outside. When it comes to providing shelter for your donkeys, keep these general rules of thumb in mind:
- A standard 12’ x 12’ horse stall can house one to three miniature donkeys or two standard donkeys.
- Barbed wire fencing should be avoided. Use woven wire fencing instead.
- An electric wire at chest height will help to prevent the donkeys eating the fence posts and stretching the fence wire.
